bp, JET H2 Energy and Volvo join hydrogen initiative Clean Energy Partnership.
As a pioneer in hydrogen mobility, the Clean Energy Partnership has been working for 20 years on smart solutions for smooth, cross-modal hydrogen refueling. 25 partner companies are currently involved in the CEP working groups and are creating the basis for an efficient, future-proof refueling station network. This year, the CEP welcomes three globally active companies as new partners: bp, JET H2 Energy and the Volvo Group are enriching the CEP with their comprehensive expertise.
Berlin, 20.04.2023. Hydrogen trucks and cars as well as H2 filling stations – unthinkable without the Clean Energy Partnership. Launched as a former federal government funding project, 25 companies in the partnership are now campaigning for mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells. The focus is on the filling station of the future. The CEP is developing efficient solutions and standards for various H2 refueling options. Whether truck, bus, commercial vehicle or car – hydrogen refueling should be possible everywhere without any complications.
A strong team for the transport transition
bp, JET H2 Energy and the Volvo Group have recognized the importance of standardized refueling for a successful energy and mobility transition and are now supporting the partnership in its visionary and ambitious project. CEP Chairman Jörg Starr emphasizes the importance of the new additions to the partnership: “We at CEP have learned that great projects only succeed as a team. We are therefore delighted about the commitment of our new partners and their expertise in order to achieve our major goal as quickly as possible: mobility with hydrogen for all modes of transport.
Concentrated knowledge for the filling station of the future
bp is currently planning the establishment and expansion of ten hydrogen hubs in Europe, the Middle East and Australia. The aim is to decarbonize particularly energy-intensive sectors such as industry and heavy goods transport. JET H2 Energy – a joint venture between JET Tankstellen Deutschland GmbH and H2 Energy Europe – plans to open ten new hydrogen filling stations in Germany and Denmark by spring 2024 – powered by 100% green H2. The Volvo Group recently sent its first truck with a hydrogen fuel cell drive on tour. Customers are due to start the pilot phase in a few years; marketing is planned from 2025.
Mobility turnaround can only succeed with hydrogen – and political backing
Political support is essential for achieving the ambitious targets. Especially at the moment with the amendment of the National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS). “As the CEP, we are clearly calling for the technology-neutral treatment of all refueling paths (all pressure levels/characteristics) in order to support a diverse market design and promote the ramp-up across all modes of transport,” says Jörg Starr.
The CEP can now also count on the support of its new partner companies.
The CEP is working on establishing green mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells on the market – secure in supply and environmentally friendly. Technology, mineral oil and energy companies, gas producers and automotive manufacturers and suppliers are working together to create standards across all modes of transport. With its expertise, the CEP is committed to a goal-oriented dialog between industry, politics and the market and acts as an advisory body in the context of shaping the regulatory framework.
