Contribution image for guidelines for fire departments on handling hydrogen

The “Hydrogen guidelines for fire departments (as of 12/2025)” were developed by the working group of the heads of professional fire departments and the German Fire Service Association. It provides information and recommendations for fire departments when dealing with hydrogen. The guide covers a broad spectrum, from the properties of hydrogen to production, storage and transportation to detailed hazard scenarios and recommendations for hazard prevention, including practical advice on exploration, safety distances and dealing with hydrogen-specific risks.

The CEP shares this guideline as reference knowledge in order to make the latest findings and recommendations for action available to all interested parties and in particular to specialists in the field of emergency response.
