CEP equips DEKRA, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Süd for the approval of hydrogen filling stations.
Berlin, 05.10.2023. With DEKRA, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Süd, the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) is equipping the first three testing companies in Germany to test and approve hydrogen filling stations. An important step for the further market ramp-up of mobility with hydrogen and a clear signal: the technology is on the market, nothing stands in the way of a nationwide market establishment.
Since its foundation in 2002, the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) has been committed to the market ramp-up of green mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells. The core of the joint work of technology, mineral oil and energy companies, gas producers, car manufacturers and suppliers is the development of standards and norms for safe, efficient refueling – on the road, rail or water.
Around eight years ago, the industry partnership – then a lighthouse project of the German government – began to translate the requirements of SAE J2601 into defined tests for the acceptance of hydrogen filling stations. These are largely reflected in ISO 19880-1. Since then, the industry partners have advised filling station manufacturers and operators and provided long-term information in workshops. The project has now been handed over to DEKRA, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Süd.
“We are delighted that the CEP has now been able to hand over the acceptance process for hydrogen refueling stations to the first testing companies. DEKRA, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Süd are ready to test the refueling protocols of H2 stations according to the CEP standard. A step that shows how much we have already achieved,” says Jörg Starr, Chair of the CEP and H2 expert at GP Joule. Data such as pressure, flow rate and temperature are recorded in the protocols. Without a corresponding approval, no hydrogen may be refueled at the respective filling station.
About the CEP:
The CEP is working to establish green mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells on the market – secure in supply and environmentally friendly. Technology, mineral oil and energy companies, gas producers and automobile manufacturers and suppliers are working together to create standards across all modes of transport. With its expertise, the CEP is committed to a goal-oriented dialog between industry, politics and the market and acts as an advisory body in the context of shaping the regulatory framework.
