The Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) was represented at the two-day hy-fcell trade fair together with DWV. The result: The combination of trade fair and conference offers the international hydrogen and fuel cell community the ideal framework for information and exchange.
Stuttgart, 14.09.23. Together with its partner, the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, the CEP provided information on the ramp-up of the hydrogen market economy at hy-fcell, organized by Messe Stuttgart. The current challenges in the field of hydrogen and fuel cell technology and corresponding application-related solutions were the focus of the conference and exhibition.
CEP representative and HyMobility spokesperson Volker Hasenberg, Manager International Hydrogen Strategy Daimler Truck AG, was on site and spoke on the topic of “Mobile fuel cells in payload transport”. “Without hydrogen, we will miss our 2030 climate targets – this is especially true for road freight transport. Daimler Truck is therefore focusing on hydrogen-powered and battery-electric trucks, as are many other OEMs. Building two infrastructures is actually cheaper than just one. And we need a hydrogen economy either way if we want to convert our energy system completely to renewable energies,” says Hasenberg.
Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) – a strong team for the filling station of the future
The Clean Energy Partnership was also represented at hy-fcell as part of the political tour by Dr. Nicolas Dohn (Head of Hydrogen, Westfalen AG). Also present were: Dr. Franziska Brantner MdB, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Dr. Florian Stegmann, Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery of Baden-Württemberg and Dr. Michael Münter, Ministerial Director and Head of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector Baden-Württemberg.
The Westfalen Group has been a partner for the production and supply of hydrogen for more than 40 years. The company, which has been an active member of the CEP for many years, is currently investing in the development of a hydrogen filling station network for heavy goods vehicles and the construction of its own electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen. At a political level, the CEP is supporting the development of the Transport Master Plan for hydrogen and fuel cell technology in transport with regard to the updating of the National Hydrogen Strategy and is ready to enrich it with know-how and experience. “The CEP’s partner companies are available to provide policymakers with their comprehensive expertise for the development of concrete action steps, particularly for the further expansion of decentralized hydrogen innovation and technology centers (ITCs),” says Nicolas Dohn.
Hydrogen cars and trucks, buses and H2 filling stations – unthinkable without the Clean Energy Partnership. Started as a former federal government funding project, 25 companies are now working as an industrial partnership to promote mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells. The focus is always on the filling station of the future. The CEP develops efficient solutions and standards for various H2 refueling options, establishes test systems and creates technology comparisons for the refueling path in the heavy-duty sector (GH2, CcH2, sLH2). Whether truck, bus, commercial vehicle or car – the refueling process should be no different to conventional fuels: simple and uncomplicated.
Cooperation partners CEP and DWV – bundled H2 expertise
DWV and CEP have enjoyed a trusting partnership for many years. The content of the cooperation is the bundling of expertise in the areas of H2 mobility (CEP) and H2 economy (DWV) and the mutual complementation as an advisory body in the sense of a holistic H2 economy and in the direction of politics. The common goal is to establish a market design for the economic use of hydrogen in mobility generated from renewable energies.
About the CEP:
The CEP is working to establish green mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells on the market – secure in supply and environmentally friendly. 25 technology, mineral oil and energy companies, gas producers and automobile manufacturers and suppliers are working together to create standards across all modes of transport. With its expertise, the CEP is committed to a goal-oriented dialog between industry, politics and the market and acts as an advisory body in the context of shaping the regulatory framework.
About DWV:
The German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV) e.V. has been promoting a sustainable hydrogen and fuel cell industry since 1996. The DWV focuses on the development of a green hydrogen market economy as part of a sustainable energy supply. With its commitment, the DWV contributes to efficiently achieving the climate targets – while at the same time maintaining security of supply and Germany as an industrial location. Hydrogen produced using renewable energies plays a key role in this. The association’s activities focus on implementing and optimizing the necessary market, technological and regulatory framework conditions for the hydrogen economy in the areas of plant construction, production, transport infrastructure and application technologies. In order to solve these challenges globally, DWV is also committed to sustainable international cooperation. Over 429 personal members and 175 member institutions and companies represent more than 1.5 million jobs nationwide; the association therefore represents a significant part of the German economy.
