The Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) makes clear recommendations on how hydrogen refuelling stations for heavy goods vehicles can be designed for the future. The focus here is on a modular system structure that enables gradual scaling and complements the requirements of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).
A central approach is the expandability of key components such as storage tanks, compressors and dispensers – without extensive conversions. This creates the necessary flexibility to make the early market phase economical and to be able to react to increasing demand.
Modularity not only guarantees investment security, but also facilitates the integration of new technologies and standards such as SAE J2601-5 and ISO 19885-3, ensuring that the infrastructure keeps pace with technical developments and remains efficient in the long term.
With these recommendations, the CEP is providing an important impetus for the planning and scaling of a sustainable hydrogen infrastructure that supports heavy goods transport efficiently and in a future-proof manner.
